Dairy-free Protein Shake

I am currently in a period of my life where I try to eliminate dairy products as much as possible. I have some doubts that my body does not tolerate milk very well. Anyway… even giving your body a break from dairy for a period of time and not eliminate it completely is still very good! The reason is because milky foods are a bit more special – the lactose they contain is hardly digestible by a great number of people.

Unfortunately, most dairy-free recipes usually sound flat and not very tasty… and they actually are… not delicious. That is because milk products give that one-of-a-kind smooth taste to the dishes.  This protein shake though will change your idea of dairy-free!

Chia seeds and banana complement perfectly well to give that creamy texture, while the isolated protein powder adds in more sweeteness and of course, PROTEIN, without any guilt!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup soy milk /or other nut milk/
  • 1 banana
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 egg
  • 1 scoop isolated protein powder

Method:

  1. Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Serve and enjoy!

Note: Even if your isolated protein powder is coming from a dairy source, the lactose is usually isolated, so most of the isolated protein powders shouldn’t cause problems to lactose-intolerant people. Still, check the labels before consuming!

Nutrition: Chia seeds are an absolute super food – they contain dietary fiber, the perfect ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids, calcium, copper, phosphorus, potassium, zinc…. The list is endless! 🙂 In fact, all of the ingredients in this smoothie are very high in protein, except for the high-carb banana, which is also great for muscle repair, mood enhancement and good digestion.

You can eat this smoothie for breakfast or as a post-workout shake!
